Spurred into action by abortion law reforms in the US, and the protests made by American actresses, I researched the treatment of women in countries where abortion is illegal. I am an artist, writer, and vocalist in a band and I wanted to respond to facts which I uncovered, and show allegiance to women who need abortions but live in non pro-choice countries.
Rather than make a piece of visual art or write lyrics I decided to call together a group of like-minded women, and some men, to perform at a music event. I think it's important for people to get together, stand up for their beliefs, and present their art-form to a live audience rather than confine their opinions to social media.
Proceeds from this event will go to bpas (British Pregnancy Advisory Service) and ipas (International Pregnancy Advisory Service). So that as much money as possible from ticket sales can go to these organisations, I'm launching this crowd-funder to cover venue and equipment hire, advertising and performers' travel expenses. Any money raised after these costs have been met will be donated to bpas and ipas.
My vision is for this to be an LGBTQ + friendly, non-political colourful event where we can all have fun. This will happen on Saturday 25th April 2020 at the Green Door Store, Brighton, 3-10.30 pm. These brilliant bands, performers and DJs are all playing for no fee - snoozers, Bunty, MAP 71, No Home, Gaffa Bandana, La Pequena Em, Massive Luxury Overdose, Ani Kcam, Elkka Nyoukis, micromega, Cracks in the Armour, and Fiery Biscuits. Tickets are £6 (+bf) advance or £7 on the door.
