Accidents are a leading cause of death and serious injury for children and young people and causes more children to be admitted to hospital each year than any other reason .
Lifeskills believes that every child deserves to be safe.
We want to reduce the number of deaths and injuries to young children by providing advice to those who need it most. By simply making people aware of the everyday situations that could pose a risk to their child, we could prevent countless serious or fatal injuries.
Our aim is to train all Health Visitors and Nursery Nurses in the West of England area in basic risk awareness. This would include identifying potential hazards to children, understanding the risks and thinking about possible solutions. Skills can be passed on to the families they work with and advice can be tailored to their particular situation.
According to NICE guidance, accidental injuries to young people costs society around £146 million a year. Lives are cut short and families and friends are left devastated by the consequences.
Providing simple, targeted risk awareness training is a simple, cheap and incredibly effective solution to this problem.
