Powerstock School- Active, healthy, happy children

by Joanna Moss in Powerstock, England, United Kingdom

We did it
On 22nd February 2019 we successfully raised £12,130 with 70 supporters in 35 days

Our aim is to keep our children active and healthy by providing new trim trail equipment and a climbing wall to improve fitness and stamina.

New stretch target

If we exceed our initial target and achieve extra money, it would contribute towards an all-weather Daily Mile course and the renovation of our old 'quiet garden’ into a storytelling garden and active role playing area.

Thank you for visiting our page and for taking the time to read about our project.  We are very grateful for any support you can pledge.

If we raise £5000, Dorset County Council will match it with another £5000.  The Council have kindly already made their pledge which is included in the total raised so far, but we have to hit our target of £10,000 for the council to actually give us the money.

Our school is 'proud to be active'

We are a small rural school in the heart of West Dorset and we love being active! We have undertaken many initiatives to keep our children active & healthy, for example, we were one of the first primary schools in Dorset to adopt the 'Daily Mile', and last year we won the School Games Gold award.  We are very proud of the hard work we have done to keep our children active and this project is critical to ensure we can keep it going.

The project

The Powerstock School Association (PSA) is raising funds to help our children continue to build their understanding of the importance of being active by installing a trim trail and transverse climbing wall that will improve their core strength, balance, flexibility and stamina.  The children will use the trim trail both as part of the 'Daily Mile' (to make it more challenging) and as standalone equipment, so it has multiple uses.

Our current trim trail is very old and doesn't have the right equipment to challenge the children.  We also have an external wall we wish to transform into a transverse climbing wall to improve our children's strength and balance as they climb both across and up the wall.

Here are some examples of some of the equipment we would like to buy for our trim trail (images kindly supplied by Pentagon Play):

This is the wall we want to transform into a transverse climbing wall:

Why is this important?

Our small primary school makes a big impact. Parents choose our school because they recognise that our nurturing ethos and ‘step out of the ordinary’ approach to education delivers results, both academic and whole child’s self-development. In the last few years we have increased the school’s outdoor and physical activity, recognising the benefits it brings to physical health and emotional wellbeing. ‘Proud to be Active’ is part of our school ethos where children are encouraged to have a go, be creative in their physical activity and be free to play. We want our children to understand that being active is key to a happy, healthy life.

The new equipment will help us achieve this and our children will continue to thrive.

Thank you for your support.
