Potton Pre-school would like to offer our children and local community a new and exciting way of learning through play. We want to introduce Forest School into our sessions because we know that children really benefit from learning through exploring in their natural surroundings. For us to achieve this we need your support in part funding this amazing new venture for our children.
In a world where technology is encompassing our children’s daily lives, a world where there are so many rules and fewer managed risks; we would like to teach not only the children in our setting but the community that the world is bigger than the four walls we live in.
We have already brought the natural world into our setting through the Curiosity Approach for the children to experience but we now want to take them outside to experience the natural world. Our project involves enabling children to learn through play and experience in the outdoors. We want to invite our local settings, childminders and the community as a whole to join us once a week in discovering and exploring our local natural world.
Learning together through a Forest School approach, our children and community will benefit from improved mental and physical health, exposure to more manageable risks, physical health and building confidence and independence.
This will ensure community links stay strong, children learn to build relationships with others and are exposed to empathy for others and nature.
Having a Forest School skill set within our setting also allows us to add this new and exciting activity to our well attended school holiday clubs, which will benefit our ever growing community.
Our small community has had three large housing developments built in the last two years and many new houses have added to our ever stretched infrastructure. This has brought a large number of families with children looking for settings, childcare, school wrap around care and clubs. We want to be able to support this growth with something new for our community to access.
We at Potton Pre-school have such a passion for allowing children to thrive and be allowed to be children. To get wet, to be muddy, to climb trees and learn through curisosity of the world around. To be able to share this with not only their peers but also the local community will allow the children to build strong community relationships, support wellbeing and resiliance.
The money we recieve will support the training of staff in forest schooling and give us the financies to buy the resources we need to make this dream a reality for the children and community.
We look forward to bringing our dream to life.
