Potters Bar Radio (PBR) was set up by a small group of volunteers at the beginning of lockdown. The aim was to keep a sense of comminity in times of isolation and lonliness. At first there were only a few Djs broadcasting a small number of news and music programmes. However in a short time this has grown and our volunteers now produce a vast variety of programmes that appeal to an even wider audience. We bring out broadcasts from the town football club whereby fans can live coverage. Local church services are streamed on Sunday and there is a community show that connects various clubs and teams. We have started linking with schools and will be broadcasting a Christmas service very soon.
There is an eclectic mix of music from classical to pop, rock and jazz. We even have a weekly mediatation show to help people relax and destress in these difficult times.
There have been moves to link with Borehamwood. They have approached usfor advice on setting up their own community radio but also linking with PBR.
Without a doubt PBR is definitely radio 'by the community for the community' There are many plans to extend further as the response has been favourable throughout the community and indeed beyond.
