The creation of regular (3 times a week) pop ins for the elderly helps to offer support to those in the area, aiming particularly at those who are isolated and have few opportunities to interact with similar individuals in a safe, social space. Furthermore it gives help in cases of an emergency, helps maintain independence and nurtures friendship among older people. At each pop in, a group of volunteers along with a coordinator set up in local halls and meet and greet our guests. Hot drinks, cake and biscuits are served along with regular extra activities such as knitting, a quiz, bingo and similar. Birthdays are always celebrated as the entire group sings along as a cake is given to the guest. Building on the pop ins, hot lunches are supplied regularly throughout the year for a small cost, along with day coach trips to areas of interest such as a Cotswold Village or a canal journey. Each week is different and the pop ins are always developing, but we see regular faces, many friendships and plenty of laughs along the way. Many say we are a lifeline and they look forward to their pop in each week.
