I would like to have a book published which contains all my own written poems. I have been writing for approximately 12 years and have around 50 poems at present. Some of them I have written for friends and family's special ocassions i.e. birthdays, son joining the army, milestone birthdays, etc but some of them are more generalised and can be referred to for various events - ie baby shower, gaining weight, the old days etc.
A couple of my poems were written/commissioned by friends and acquaintances of mine to present as gifts - I asked for basic information about the person and the event and came up with a couple of pieces that were admired greatly by my customers and their recipients.
I am adding to this list fairly regularly, when I have a new idea. I have a folder full of work and ideas. I have also already put together a "draft" of the book and depending how much I can raise I would like to have drawn a few illustrations to go in the book, pay for an ISBN number and either self-publish it with the help of a few friends of mine, or pay a company such as United Press for their service. Dependant on the amount raised I will prioritise my list and see which option I can afford.
I have just recently started buying Writing magazines and within the last few months I entered several of my poems for a couple of competitions. One of my poems was chosen as one of the 100 UK winners, chosen for the National Poetry Anthology 2017 - book due out in the Spring. Another one of my poems is being added to the Moments of Inspiration - a book of poetry which is due out in December 2016.
In the past I have had involvement in 2 books - one was written by my ex-boss, with whom I worked for over 20 years - I helped in the research, collation, proof reading of his publication and was very pleased to have been mentioned in the Foreword. A few years later I responded to a newspaper advert and wrote a piece and helped with scanning of photographs, checking drafts for a book written about the school I attended as a child. I was fortunate this time and had my name on the inside and on the front of the book.
However, my dream is to have published a book of my own work and share my poems with a wider audience. While hopefully engaging people of all ages in poetry and writing - if I can do it - anyone can.
