Barbuda - aftermath of Hurricane Irma

by Play for Barbuda in Birmingham, England, United Kingdom

As you know, hurricane Irma has blasted though the Caribbean leaving a trail of destruction and mayhem. Of particular interest to me is the island of Barbuda which has been deemed uninhabitable; 90-98% of the infrastructure has been destroyed.
I have been through a category 5 hurricane, and I know full well what the aftermath is like, and Barbuda (sister island of antigua where I lived and worked for ten years, and where my children were born) will have suffered immensely as it is very low lying and much smaller than its sister island.
I have many friends over there, and the girls have family, and I would like to help. The pupils of the school are all eager to help as well. I've been in touch with one of my friends over there (a lawyer), and she has offered to take any money that we raise and personally go and buy some of the bare essentials that the people of Barbuda will need, so we know that the money is being used immediately and to good purpose. They are desperate for water, food, clothes....anything. We would like to do a 12 hour play-a-thon on Wednesday and be sponsored; I would love to raise £500. Pupils  and friends of the school will comntinuosly play on a v ariety of instruments from 10am-10pm. We iwll have sponsor sheets for friends and family, and I'm hoping that you, the public, will get behind us and maybe help us smash our £500 limit....
Thank you all....
