My name is Becca, I first started Bowen Rocks in the summer of 2019 for something free to do in the summer holidays with my son Bowen. I found that painting the rocks was having a therapeutic impact on my mental health which I have suffered with for many years. Finding this, I then set up a therapeutic rock painting session once a week in our local library for those who were also suffering with their mental health to which we have had great success.
My friend Carrie came to join my team. Since then we have hosted large free community events for children. At these events we bring stories to life by using our fantastic interactive story rocks that have proved very successful within our local schools.
In June this year we successfully secured the community asset transfer of the play patch in Hindley. This was a derelict overgrown plot of land with a very tired storage container on it. With a lot of hard work we have now cleared the site including emptying the sand pit and levelling all areas. We have also put in large planters already producing fresh fruit and vegetables.
We are now up to the renovations of the shipping container which will be a classroom/workshop. The outside of the container is almost finished painted in a wonderful woodland theme.
But now we need your help....
We are running extremely low on funds to complete our project. Your kind donations will help to fund:
Play equipment and park
A new sandpit
Story room ( shed)
As you can see even after all the work we have already done we still have a long way to go before we can deliver the magical sensory wonderland for everyone to enjoy.
