I wish to adapt this already ethical business to help the public in their mission to reduce their plastic and food waste. This would be done by installing a range of zero waste dispensers (pictured above) in the shop. Customers would then be able to bring their own containers/bags to fill or even choose to have loose foods delivered.
ABOUT THE STORE
The Organic Food Store is an independent ethical shop based just outside of Stockport, Manchester. At present the store services local shopper's and provides a delivery service to the residents of Greater Manchester, East Cheshire and the High Peaks with offerings of loose organic fruit and vegetables alongside a vast range of other organic foods and environmentally friendly household products. www.theorganicfoodstore.co.uk
The introduction of a
cleaning product and toiletry refill scheme (pictured below) has proved
extremely popular along with loose soaps, bamboo toothbrushes and bulk buys as
customers are doing their best to reduce their household waste. To expand this,
the installation of the zero waste food
dispensers and food bins will make it possible to offer package free goods such
as: grains, pulses, cereals, nut/seeds, dried fruits, flours, and pasta etc. And
allow customers to buy just the amount they need so saving money and preventing
In order to make this change my small store needs funds. A bank loan was considered though repaying one would only push up the prices of the products which really goes against the whole idea so here I am asking those that would benefit to help.
How will the money be spent?
I estimate the cost of purchasing up to 20 gravity dispensers and a further 10 scoop dispensers (below) is £2,000.
On top of this there is the cost of installing the dispensers and the signage. The remaining funds will be used towards the purchase of food storage bins. These items will start me off and from then on profit created from the sales of loose goods can be used to expand this offering and improve the store for a better shopping experience.
What happens to the money if the target is not achieved?
If the target of £2500 is not reached, then all monies will be automatically refunded to donators.
