I've almost been on this earth for 50 years! I am excited and so very thankful for my life and my good health. I am also insanely proud of the Pilates business that I have created in my beautiful studio here in Porthtowan, Cornwall - helping people learn about their bodies and move well feels like the best job in the world for me.
Last October one of my best friends in the world, Tania, died of cancer – and didn’t make it to 50! I wish this wasn’t such a common story – so many of us have been touched, changed, and grieved the loss of someone we love. And more still recover from Cancer but have lasting health issues to deal with because of the treatment. So, this year, for this big birthday, all I could possibly wish for is for more success in treatment and outcomes for cancer. Therefore, I have chosen Cancer Research UK as my birthday charity.
I am going to donate some of my time (at least 20 hours or more) - in the hope that it can raise vital funds to try and improve the outcomes, treatment, and screening for Cancer. I am passionate about the power of Pilates to empower us, physically and mentally, with whatever life throws at us. Next year I will be doing some specific training to assist Cancer patients in their rehabilitation - I believe that this is where my skills can make the biggest difference and support those that need it the most.
Of course if you would like you can just donate - but please have a look through the rewards I am offering:
- Some private Pilates classes (1:1) in my studio or online
- Some small group mat Pilates classes here in my studio
- A Zoom mat class on Thursday 4th November
- Some toe socks and equipment (I will hopefully be adding to this)
If any of these rewards can encourage you to donate I would be so delighted. I know that people can get inundated with charity requests – so please just consider any amount.
Turning 50 feels like a privilege that many are denied and I am determined to celebrate it, prioritise and appreciate my health, and live big!
Thank you all, whatever role, big or small you have played in my first 50 years.
