Project aim

Project aim

We are a Community Interest Company (CIC) who focus on teaching permaculture design in the UK and worldwide. We aim to raise £4000 to subsidise low income students in their placement on 2 separate permaculture design courses we are running later this year, one in Uganda and one in the UK.

About the project

Permaculture is a design process that gives individuals the skills and knowledge to transform their world into a sustainable and fair place. It uses examples from nature to help us minimise our impact on the environment.

We are passionate about positive change and the move to sustainable lifestyles. We teach permaculture design, develop community gardens and support people to develop their own housing and worker co-operatives.

The barrier for a lot of people to study permaculture, especially young people, is money;  they have the time and the enthusiasm, but not the resources. We know how permaculture transforms people and their outlooks, converting genuine concerns about community and environment into positive action and a way forward. Those that attend the courses feel confident in their ability to effect positive change, whether though reducing the carbon footprints of individuals and businesses, supporting communities through sustainable action or building a mass movement for change.

Permaculture is about defining what we do want and to help us work towards our stated goals, not simply being against things we know are wrong, permaculture design is about being for things we do want. It is a healthy dose of positivism.

We work hard to offer rock bottom prices, but have to pay food accommodation and transport costs so there is a need to find full costs for each course we run. With the money raised via this fundraiser we hope to be able to offer heavily subsidised places on 2 upcoming 2 week permaculture design courses this autumn, one in the UK and one in Uganda.

As a group of permaculture teachers we have increasing ambition to reach a wider audience, we are turning 10 years of experience into an exciting new project at the heart of our own community.

Sector39 has been operating as a collective of practitioners to create a space to learn about permaculture for over 10 years. We have now registered as a Community Interest Company and are formalising ourselves, taking on new partners and have created a new enterprise hub with a fairtrade and local produce shop and offices in the Welsh borders as part of Dragons Co-operative.

Your Donation could quite literally transform someone's life, and help turn them into an active and empowered 'part of the solution. As well as supporting individual students you are helping create a new enterprise dedicated to working for change. By donating to support permaculture learning you will be directly affecting change within many communities across the UK and within Ugandan communities. Think Global, Act Local : )

We all know we live at a time of immense change and the need to keep positive and focused on achievable goals seems imperative. Permaculture design is quite possibly the most powerful tool we have at hand to help transform our society and economy onto a regenerative, environmentally positive footing. With your help we can achieve these aims and more.
