Penrith Town Band has been spreading Christmas cheer to the local community throughout its 126-year history and plans to do so again in 2020.
Like many brass bands, Penrith Town Band relies on donations at Christmas to support the band through the year. This year, donations are particularly important as all the band's bookings have been cancelled, resulting in the loss of all income for the year, other than that which we can generate through Christmas carolling.
During 2020, with no income, the band has still had to cover insurance costs and has incurred additional costs preparing for COVID secure rehearsals. In addition, when we are able to resume normal activity, the band will need to prioritise acquiring new uniform. A full set of traditional brass band uniforms will cost in the region of £6,000. Our last uniform was purchased in the 1990s.
Our carolling season will necessarily be very different this year. We are offering socially distanced carols in small groups of up to 6 players. We will be busking at the Cornmarket in the town centre on the 5th and 19th December and carolling around local streets on various dates in the lead up to Christmas.
We're sure the good folk of Eden don't need to be asked, but our audiences will also need to socially distance and respect the rule-of-6 otherwise we will have to stop playing. Thank you!
Donations of any amount are appreciated, but:
- £5 will result in a thank you from the band for supporting us;
- for £15 we could arrange for a small group to make a personalised audio or video recording to share with you via social media or other digital means;
- for £50 we can arrange for a group to play outside your home for at least 20 minutes to bring Christmas cheer to you and your neighbours! *
* Local area only. Subject to restrictions not changing. It must be possible to safely fit a socially distanced group of 6 players outside your home.
