We are Pembury School Association - a committee of volunteer parents, carers and teachers from Pembury Primary School in Kent. We love our village school and want to make it even better for all the children that go there.
Our project seeks to turn an abandoned and unloved part of our school grounds into a vibrant sensory Music Garden where children, teachers and visitors can feel inspired to be creative with music and sound. This will be a place of discovery, relaxation and joy, where children can explore their senses and play giant musical instruments in an inspiring outdoor environment. Teachers and adults are welcome to join in too!
This part of the school grounds is currently cordoned off and hasn't been accessible for many years - the budget just isn't available to repair the poor paving and furniture and it has therefore had to be abandoned. We would love to turn this redundant space into a healthy and vibrant place for our children, staff, parents and visitors to enjoy and nurture.
The Music Garden will provide both an educational and therapeutic resource - providing an extension to their classroom learning, play times and an extra-curricular activities. The project seeks to harness the health and wellbeing benefits of both playing and listening to music and being outdoors, including helping to reduce stress levels, enhance coordination, boost concentration and acting as an emotional outlet. All children at our school will benefit from the project, in particular those children with sensory processing issues (such as autism).
