Back in 2011 we had the amazing opportunity to buy a narrowboat for the sum of £1................ yes, ONE POUND!! Her then owner Ivan simply wanted her to go to a good home where she would be loved and used to bring happiness to a community.
IBC has been associated with narrowboats since the beginning when Crystal Hale founded the club and the Angel of Islington narrowboat association. So we were delighted to have our very own boat! We started to offer trips to our youth club members, local schools and community groups. For some years this was her only job and everyone who goes on the trips really enjoys cruising along the canal.
As most charities do, we came to a point where we had to look for additional sources of income and Peggotty Tom IV became a training vessel for our RYA Inland Waterways Helm course. She's worked very hard and brings in revenue that is vital to keep our activities going, most importantly our youth club.
As you will see from the list below she has worked so incredibly hard over the last few years, supporting the club and earning valued income - now sadly she is in dry dock waiting repairs. Thank you to Uxbridge Boat Centre for getting her out of the water and into dry dock so quickly!
Our dear old lady needs a some skilled engineering work and various other repairs to be able to go back out on the water - but we love her and we really need her so we are asking you to help by making a donation. As we crowdfund, work will be starting on her, and we can update with photos and videos.
IBC staff are with her and are blacking her bottom too, something that needs doing every few years!
If, after making a small donation, you would please ask others to do the same we can soon have our Peggotty Tom IV back home in City Road Basin and cruising the Regents Canal again..................
Please remember, the beauty of crowdfunding is that small donations make a huge difference..... if you have enough of them - so please, please share with family and friends and ask them to do the same :)
The Canal Museum use her for Wet Wednesday educational trips in school holidays.
The Canal Museum also use her alternate Thursdays and Sundays for tunnel trips throughout the spring, summer and autumn.
Local families book her for birthday and celebration trips.
Our Upperdeckers club for ages 50plus use her every Tuesday 11am to 1pm!!
Local businesses also book her for corporate events.
Our AOB programme (for children with additional needs) uses her as an introduction to the club for new groups.
Local schools have trips with her, for fun and for education.
She is our RYA certified training boat for our popular RYA Inland Waterways Helm courses.
She is a much loved member of our Youth Club too.
So you see................ she's a very popular and very busy lady!
Please help us get her fit and well and back in Islington!
