Whilst towns within the Surrey area tend to be viewed as being extremely affluential, the child poverty rate in Surrey is at 10% and within some Guildford areas this goes as high as 40% which equates to 2,360 children living in poverty in the area. Guildford Philanthropy was set up in 2014 aims to raise awareness of the need within the local area and to help disadvantaged members of the community by supporting projects that deliver things like training opportunities and jobs to help improve lives of those in need. The charity encourages local giving to tackle local need and as students living in Guildford we would love to raise as much money as we can to support the local community!
