'Zofia' is a 15-minute short film about World War 2 and the lasting impact it leaves on its survivors.
'When Amanda's great-grandmother passes away, leaving behind a very special ring, secrets and a hidden life in WW2 Poland are revealed.'
Amanda is a woman in her early 20s who is currently working as a carer for her great-grandmother, Zofia.
Zofia is a Polish immigrant who has just turned 100 years old, is very reserved and keeps to herself. Neither she nor her child, Andrzej, (Amanda's grandfather) have ever spoken about their past in Poland during WW2.
When Zofia realises she is dying, she gives Amanda a special ring. When Amanda places it on her finger, she suddenly gets a flashback of Zofia's life in occupied Poland.
This is a female-led short film, both on-screen and behind the scenes, with a diverse audience of those who enjoy drama, history, and heart-warming films.
Through this short film, we intend to weave a fictional tale intertwined with true events, infusing a fantastical and surreal dimension into the narrative. The project aims to illuminate some of the harrowing experiences endured during World War II by individuals who weren't on the frontlines but still bore the weight of suffering.
Remarkably, the film's script has garnered recognition, earning 10 Film Festival Awards.
The overarching objective is to employ this achievement as a Proof of Concept for an upcoming feature-length production, which has already been hailed as "an exciting twist on the WW2 genre" by Hollywood Script Readers.
We plan to release the short film in time for the 80th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising (coming up in August 2024). There are people who fought in the Uprising who are still alive today, and we would like to share the film with them while we can.
There is also a feature film that we plan to create off the back of the short, and we plan to release that in time for the 80th Anniversary of WW2 Ending (2024).
If you like any of these films...

A large chunk of our budget is going towards the 1930s/40s shoot, including...
As well as hiring filming equipment, and a cast & crew that are just as excited for this project as we are!
Kathryn Mincer, Writer and Co-Director, was raised in a Polish family, where she often heard wartime narratives. Her deep-rooted connection to World War II history was further fuelled upon discovering that her family had experienced the Warsaw Uprising and concealed their Jewish heritage for years due to fear. This revelation inspired her to craft this narrative.
Dominique Mabille, Producer and Co-Director, began her career as an actor at the age of 5 and dedicated her time to learning a variety of different skills and partaking in as many classes and courses over the years as possible. She went on to double major in Writing and Directing, receiving a BA at AFDA. Since graduating she has worked in the industry for 7 years, starting as a stand-in and working her way up to be an extras coordinator and then finding her place in production, working on the latest Mission Impossible film, before she was approached by aerial specialists: Spirit in the Sky, to be their assistant coordinator.
