In May 2021, seven Indigenous Mayan Zapatistas set off on a sailing boat across the Atlantic on an 'invasion' of Europe to mark 500 years since colonisation. The objective of this “Journey for Life” is to have meetings, dialogues, exchanges of ideas, and experiences with all who are committed, from different perspectives and fronts, to dismantling capitalism, as well as patriarchy, racism, imperialism, colonialism, and other violent systems that destroy life.
Inspired by the Declaration for Life (https://viajezapatista.eu/en/part-one-a-declaration-for-life/), the UK Zapatista Solidarity Network has set up this crowfunder to support the Zapatistas on their journey to, and travels within, the UK and Europe. The campaign will help the Zapatistas and members of the Congreso Nacional Indígena (CNI) to engage with as many people, places, resistances, and struggles as possible in the UK (or more appropriately, and recognising the autonomy of our regions, the collective territories of Wales, Ireland, Scotland, and England).
With these visits, they will have the chance to share in what we are doing in Europe to create a fairer, better and more ecological world.
We’re aiming to raise £12,000 with this crowdfunding campaign. In order to do so, we have gathered special and original rewards both direct from Zapatista collectives in Chiapas, and donated in solidarity by artists, writers and musicians. These can be seen in the rewards list.
The money will be used only to support the Zapatistas on their journey to and within the WISE islands (Wales, Ireland, Scotland, England) and Europe, with any extra donated to support Zapatista communities in Mexico.
Specifically, the collected money will be used for the following purposes:
1. Funding the journey of the Zapatista delegation and travels within Wales, Ireland, Scotland and England.
2. Paying for accommodation and food for the Zapatista delegation.
3. Covering Covid-related expenses to keep the delegation safe, including Covid tests and PPE.
5. Supporting the Zapatistas’ journey back to Chiapas, Mexico.
Your support will make this visit an invaluable experience for both the delegation and all the people here and in Europe for whom the autonomy of the Zapatistas is a shining source of aspiration and inspiration at a time of ecological crisis and rising inequality and injustice.
If you have followed the Zapatista uprising, you'll know this is a historic and very significant event!
Your support is invaluable for us and we are deeply grateful for it!
¡Gracias!

Fundraising finishes on the 15th of July, and at that point we will post all the orders. You should expect to receive your order before the 31st of July. If there are any delays, we will keep you informed.
Unfortunately, due to Brexit, the cost of delivery abroad isn't cheap, which is why we are not able to ship items outside the UK postage system. However, there are several crowdfunding campaigns across Europe and we encourage you to support them. Have a look at them here.
If you would like to claim more than one reward, you will need to do a separate transaction for each due to Crowdfunder only enabling us to select one item per transaction. Sorry!
If you want to add a donation to your reward, you will be able to do this at the checkout. Amazing, thank you!
If you feel that you would rather the full amount of your pledge went towards our target then you can choose to make a donation on its own, without being rewarded with some of the merchandise on offer.
