Youth Vision

Youth Vision: nature based learning Youth Vision is a charity that works with young people from South West Edinburgh that are struggling with formal education, or are excluded from school, and are not engaged in training, or employment. We offer a range of nature based informal education services that aim to develop confidence and self-esteem to support a healthy transition to adulthood and more positive destinations.

Youth Vision

Youth Vision is dedicated to understanding and addressing the needs of vulnerable young people aged 10-24 from areas within the top 10% of deprivation in Edinburgh (SIMD 2020). All young people are referred via from schools, partners like Skills Development Scotland, Edinburgh Council's Family and Household Support team, the Police, and Social Work. Our primary aim is to nurture the confidence and self-esteem required for a healthy transition to adulthood.

With 15 years of experience, we utilise our 18th-century steading in the Pentlands to provide a dedicated programme of activity that will make young people feel safe, nurtured, and accepted. We run a number of outdoor learning projects including rural skills, conservation, horticulture, and life skills including cooking and self-care. The natural surroundings, combined with expert facilitation and practical guidance, offer young people an authentic experience in a secure setting.

Many of our young people have been with us since their first referral at the age of 11 and have spent time on at least one of our programmes. This gives us the rare opportunity of spending a considerable amount of time with each individual. In 2023 we provided nearly 4000 contact hours with young people who attended our programmes. Regular feedback from families and referral partners ensures 1:1 individually tailor support for the young person which aligns with our aim of supporting the healthy transition to adulthood and more positive destinations.

Working intensively with around 55 youth annually, we believe this focus on small, sustained interventions to create lasting impacts.
