YOUNG PEOPLE'S PUPPET THEATRE
The charity runs puppet projects for the benefit of young people, teaching them artistic, technical and performance skills, and causing their self-confidence and ability to operate within a team to be strengthened.

The YPPT helps children facing disadvantage to develop confidence, resilience and other transferrable skills through large-scale puppetry projects. Founded in 2015, we have since run 128 highly successful projects in Hertfordshire and surrounding counties, involving almost 4000 children.
Our projects help children develop social, practical and creative skills, from design and performance skills to working independently, taking responsibility, working as part of a team and communicating effectively. The greatest impact is on children who face additional difficulties including poverty at home, learning and communication difficulties, and emotional and mental health issues such as anxiety, feeling stressed or pressured to achieve academically. The projects give these children a supportive environment in which they can contribute on an equal footing to their classmates, and be a real, valued part of the team for the first time in their lives. They gain self-confidence and improve their attitude to learning, as they lose their self-perception of being "bad at school" and exceed everyone’s expectations, including their own. The effects of our work spill out into all areas of the children's lives as they become more confident in their own abilities and set themselves new challenges.
