My name is Byron, and I’m a filmmaker based in London, graduating from film school this summer. YOLK is a passion project written and directed by myself - a gritty, character-led short film set in 1990s Manchester. It’s a tense, stylised crime drama about trust, desperation, and betrayal.
Set in 1990s Manchester, YOLK follows Tee, a composed London enforcer, who recruits Scuz, a volatile local thug, for a seemingly simple corner shop robbery. As the plan unfolds over one morning, tension builds and the true motive behind the job slowly reveals itself—forcing both men to confront loyalty, desperation, and the cost of survival.
This project is the result of months of writing, location scouting, auditioning and planning. I've built a passionate team, who are ambitious and keen to bring this story to life. The shoot is 4 days in total, between the 18th May and the 22nd.
My vision is to make something that feels raw and authentic, but visually refined - blending social realism with crime thriller energy, in the spirit of Top Boy, Dead Man’s Shoes, and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
The money we raise will go directly toward:
- Paying our cast and essential crew
- Securing authentic locations
- Art direction, props, costume
- Feeding our team properly over 4 shoot days
- Post-production — editing, colour, and sound mix
- Marketing and Festival submissions
We’re not just making a short film - YOLK is also a proof of concept for a longer-form series, and your support brings us one step closer.
