Ensuring those who have lost during the COVID-19 pandemic are supported and that those lost are remembered as more than just a statistic.

I set up the ‘Yellow Hearts to Remember- Covid 19’ Facebook support group after my Grandmother, Sheila, died of coronavirus. This group is based on my Grandfather’s idea that those who have lost a loved one to coronavirus should place a yellow heart in their window to show that coronavirus is around and is having a massive effect on the people around us. The aim of the Yellow Hearts to Remember initiative is to raise awareness that our loved ones are more than just a statistic, all who are loved and have family and friends grieving for them. The yellow heart has since become a national symbol of remembrance.

I have placed a box of yellow heart pin badges in the crew room and would be grateful if you would wear one on your uniform to support those who have lost loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic, whatever the cause, and remember those who have been lost too soon.

Donations would be gratefully received as we are not a charity so the money would go towards the purchase of more badges to raise awareness of the campaign, any excess donations would go towards our partners at St Paul’s Cathedral, who are commissioning a permanent memorial.

Thank you for your support.
