Wyre Community Land Trust is a social enterprise model of rural land management which creates jobs and sustains and enriches the local natural landscape. Our activities also improve understanding of the countryside and deliver heath and community cohesion benefits.
We have our own small sawmill and workshop, where staff and volunteers process timber from the local woodland into finished products. We have a herd of 40 pedigree dexter cattle which graze local woodland and open pasture, often areas designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), to promote natural diversity. Our staff and countryside volunteers help ensure those sites are suitable for grazing, and to promote wildlife. Our educational activities engage local children and adults (some with additional needs) with the local countryside and craft activities. We also run nature courses.
We own no land and have no financial endowments to draw upon, so we need to cover all our operating costs though grants and donations, and revenue from sale of products such as fire wood, finished timber products, apple juice and (when the herd size permits) the sale of beef. We operate on very small financial margins.
This project will raise money to help cover the costs of refurbishing or replacing tools and other equipment used by our staff, volunteers, and visiting groups. Good quality tools and equipment help them to work safely, efficiently, and enjoyably, and help us to recruit and retain new volunteers.
