Who are we?
Worsley Cricket Club was founded in 1847 it is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the north west.
We run 3 senior cricket teams and are hoping to have 6 junior teams for the 2025 season.
We are very much community club with most of our players having originally joined the club as juniors. We have an army of volunteers who work hard to keep the the club going build for the future.
We are a proud founding member of the Greater Manchester Cricket League with ECB Clubmark status.
Our first and second teams play in the Greater Manchester Cricket League on Saturdays with our 3rd XI playing on Sundays.
Our junior teams play midweek in the evenings.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We built out practice nets in 2019 just before covid struck. During the following 2 cricket seasons we had no groundsman and with the lack of use brought on by inability to practice the nets deteriorated. We now need help to try to get them back up to standard.
The practice nets are an important part of our facilities. They enable our junior and senior teams to practice safely. The nest enable our coaches to help improve our players, to help them build skills and confidence.
If you're applying for extra funding, this is a good place to demonstrate why your project is eligible so refer back to the criteria to help complete this section
How we’ll spend the money raised
All of the money raised will be spent to completely refurbish the nets and ensure they are a safe environment for our junior and senior players .
We have spoken to the company that installed the practice nets and the have given an initial quote of £4750+VAT (Total £5700) to get our nets up to standard again. We also need to purchase a roller and if funds allow some covers for the winter.
Community impact
Worsley Cricket Club is an important part of the community. We are keen to get children and adults playing sport, socialising and also fund raising for the wider community. The more juniors we can attract with better practice facilities, the brighter the future for our club and the local area?
Every year our players help the local Rotary Club at Christmas collecting donations with Santa.
