Aim: The community hall is almost built, but we need money to furnish it chairs, tables, curtains, blinds, cutlery, cooking utensils etc.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and give you a brief outline of ourselves and the work we have been doing to build a Community Hall in Worlingham (the largest village in the east of England without a community hall population 5000+ Beccles 10000+)
In 2012 Suffolk County Council decided to reorganise the school system doing away with the middle schools and moving to a two-tier system primary and senior. This left a school site empty as the primary school moved the middle school site.
As Worlingham did not have a village hall a public meeting was held in 2012 and a group of volunteers offered to take on the task of acquiring the site for community use and building a hall. This group remains together to this day after 12 years and are now Trustees of CIO registered charity which is overseeing the construction of the hall.
The trustees came to an agreement with SCC that we would be allowed to pass some of the land to a developer in exchange for them constructing a hall on the site. Unfortunately, the Covid Epidemic struck and this delayed the negotiations and planning etc. However, we were able to reach an agreement with a local developer and the Hall is now 50% completed and is due to be handed over in September/October 2025.
We have funded the construction with grants from SCC and East Suffolk Council and Worlingham Parish Council as well as other fund raising from the local population and businesses.
Unfortunately, this does not leave us funds to fit out the hall with the essential equipment required to operate the new hall such as tables and chairs, crockery, cutlery, cooking equipment, bar furnishings, sound equipment, lighting equipment, sports equipment, desks and office equipment the list goes on and on. We can of course provide you with photos, plans, list of equipment required, accounts and any other documentation you may require. The hall will be used for a huge variety of events at reasonable cost varying from warm rooms, short mat bowls, fitness classes, senior citizen lunch clubs and socials, children’s activities and clubs, weddings, parties, wakes etc. cinema club, theatre productions, meeting rooms, conference facilities and a community bar.
