My name is Hafeez Ahmed’s and I have been selected to represent Team GB & NI at the World Transplant Games and need your help getting there.

This year, Hafeez Ahmed’s story became an inspirational chapter in the European Transplant Sports Championships, where he clinched two bronze medals in long jump and power walking. But his path to glory was far from easy; it was a journey defined by relentless determination, community support, and personal triumph over adversity.

Hafeez, who has cerebral palsy and underwent a life-saving kidney transplant, faced incredible challenges on his road to success. Competing in such high-intensity events is already a monumental task, but for Hafeez, it was a testament to his unyielding spirit. Facing extreme heat during the competition, Hafeez’s resilience was tested in ways beyond physical endurance. Despite these challenges, he achieved a personal best in the long jump and impressively survived the grueling 5000-meter power walking event to earn his medals—a true reflection of his dedication and hard-earned discipline.

One of Hafeez’s greatest supporters, his long-time coach Keith Hunter, was immensely proud of his achievements. "Hafeez’s hard work and dedication to his training program have been nothing short of extraordinary," Keith remarked. "I've seen him push through challenges time and again, and he truly deserves these medals. His perseverance has paid off, and I couldn’t be prouder."

Hafeez’s success at the European Transplant Sports Championships has now qualified him for the prestigious World Transplant Games next year, where he will once again have the chance to compete on the world stage.

However, his achievements are not just his own but a reflection of the support network that stood behind him. It was only through sponsorships and community backing that Hafeez could take part in the European Transplant Sports Championships 2024. Contributions from various quarters—Sale Harriers, a local car body shop, his foster parents, family members, the Greater Manchester Police Force, and public donations—all made his dream possible.

In addition to his athletic pursuits, Hafeez works for GLL, the UK’s largest leisure charitable social enterprise, where he dedicates his time to working with disabled children and adults, helping them develop and grow. His passion for making a positive impact on others' lives mirrors his commitment to his own challenges.

A special thank you goes to Hafeez’s family and his partner, who have always believed in him and stood by his side throughout his journey. Their unwavering support has been a cornerstone of his success, and they are immensely proud of everything he has accomplished.

This year, Dresden was the stage for the historic 2025 World Transplant Games, these events celebrate solid organ transplant recipients, people and hematopoietic cell transplant recipients from over 60 countries for a week of multi-sport competition, showcasing the incredible strength and resilience of transplant athletes like Hafeez.

Hafeez’s achievement goes beyond personal victory. It serves as a powerful reminder of the strength of the transplant community, the power of collective support, and the importance of never giving up, no matter the obstacles in your way.
