Women Without Roofs - Nepal

RCN 1132931,

Women Without Roofs (WWR) is a small, yet growing, charity that benefits women and their families living in Nepal. We help women that are on their own and are struggling to survive. Many of these women also have children and all of our women are vulnerable, sometimes a husband will abandon his wife because of the stigma of leprosy, or perhaps the husband is in jail or dead.

WWR began in 2005 when stalwart missionary Eileen Lodge approached Anna Townsend to support a group of vulnerable women who had lost loved ones to leprosy. Anna found sponsors for the women and recruited a fantastic set of committed trustees in the UK. Though she hailed from Britain, Eileen had lived in Nepal for over 50 years and had many stories to tell; you can read more of them here. wwrnepal.wordpress.com/2021/12/12/a-memorial-to-eileen-lodge/

The charity now supports over 70 women with their rent and medical bills, which is usually sufficient for them to get back on their feet. A small group of the most vulnerable live at our women's home, Glory House.

Supporting us means you're providing stability and security to women who might otherwise be ostracised and overlooked by Nepali society. Our women's children get a new lease on life as we provide for their education; we aim to break the cycle of poverty and are proud to say we have successfully managed this for many families.
