What is Wolo?

Wolo stands for “We Only Live Once,” and provides vital support and services to families across Sussex battling cancer.  At Wolo, we believe in the power of community and compassion to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.

We know that every family is unique, and every cancer is different. At Wolo, we provide tailored care and support to meet the unique needs of each family. What will your donations be used for?

Each family costs c. £1,200 a year in direct support costs. Your donation could support any of our primary activities with these families. Every family’s needs are unique but support could include:

  • Therapy sessions, both for adults and children
  • Our exclusive 6-week Wellness Course, to help deal with the difficulties and traumas of living with cancer
  • Free family events, introductions to other families on similar journeys and local respite breaks to help reduce isolation/loneliness and enable families to make precious memories together
  • Weekly social walking/running/yoga/gym/cycling groups
  • Cooking sessions, both online and in-person, to help equip families with the tools and knowledge to maintain a healthy diet within budget constraints
  • Purchasing/sourcing equipment needed (incl. appliances, bedding, toys, medical aids etc) to improve quality of life, increase comfort and help meet their changing needs
  • Identifying, organising and paying for services such as cleaners, home maintenance issues and other bespoke requests

Your donation will really help to make a difference to the families we support.

Why Wolo?

Families who contact Wolo really need our help. After receiving a life-changing cancer diagnosis, so many families don’t know where to turn.

Many families report feeling alone, isolated, struggling with their mental health, financial worries…the difficulties faced on a cancer journey seem endless:

“I find it hard to summarise how I’m feeling to be honest, it’s all been totally overwhelming and exhausting. I feel so guilty that my husband and children have been through this.”

“I am terrified of leaving my children behind.”

“The cancer diagnosis at 38 means I can’t relate to anybody. School mums and friends are now non-existent.”

“Things are really tough at the moment. I’m struggling to cover bills with what’s coming in and the boys have school trips and camps to pay for too, as well as all the usual outgoings.”

How can we help?

100% of the families we have supported feel that Wolo has made a positive impact on their cancer journey/family. 80% rated this impact as 10/10

Together, with your donations, we can really make a difference:

“Wolo have been life savers on our cancer journey. We felt alone and isolated after my husband’s diagnosis, but since we found Wolo we feel like we have someone to talk to who understands exactly what it’s like to go through a cancer diagnosis when you have a young child at home.”

“It makes a huge difference to be considered part of the Wolo family. The kindness they have offered has been so very humbling and they have made us smile when things have been tough; and helped us make some wonderful memories. There isn't anyone out there doing what they are doing. We appreciate it so much!”

We cannot thank Wolo enough. I know that they are there for us in the worst time in our lives. It means so much.”
