Witches Without Sin is a Period/Drama written by Julia Gonzalez Franco.
10 min short film , produced by independent Scottish film group - Fat Pooch Productions.
"Witches Without Sin" transports viewers to a fervent Scotland ensnared in the hysteria of the witch trials. Edith and Marie, find themselves condemned in a world where fear supersedes understanding. As they spend their final night together in a bleak cell, their story transcends the confines of their imprisonment.
Their love , a silent rebellion against the oppressive forces that seek to define their existence, becomes a testament to their resilience. In the shadow of impending doom, Edith and Marie find solace in each other's arms, their connection a defiant strike against the ignorance and hatred that surround them.
This film is an exploration of the enduring power of love and the human spirit's capacity to find light in the darkest of times. It is a reminder of the tragic consequences of prejudice, and a celebration of the courage to love freely in the face of certain demise.
The film is dark , gritty and raw. Every shot is intimate and personal, transporting the audience into the cell with these two characters.
Our primary goal with this film is to shed light on the struggles and challenges faced by marginalised individual's throughout history. By setting the story against the backdrop of the witch trials in the 17th century, we hope to capture the fear , ignorance, and prejudice that often accompanied societal norms during that era.
we want to create this space for these two characters where they can release everything and truly express who they are in their final moments.
The film challenges the audience to question the nature of truth and justice, and the case with which fear can lead to the persecution of the innocent. It is a tribute to the countless women who faced persecution throughout history, and a reminder of the power of human connection and resilience in the fcae of unfathomable darkness.
