A story of support.
A typical referral from this month:
The family is in chaos. Mum sees her child only every couple of days and is trying to get him back. She's struggling and while family help and social work have stepped in, she's still pulled back into the chaos. But this week is a good week - of sorts. Last week though, she missed a call from the benefits people. This automatically means a sanction. It doesn't matter what sort of reason you have and whether it's legit. Sanction.
Sanction means that mum can't plan for getting food in. For herself or for her child. She'll eat the leftovers of whatever is left in the house. Stale bread, some beans with pasta. If she's lucky.
She's thankful the social worker is around to help right now. Even though her rescheduled call isn't until 10 days away, the worker will be able to call MADE4U up. We'll make sure there's cooking facilities, check that there's enough. fuel for heating and cooking. We'll send out 3-day parcels a few times over the next week or so. These will include the basics, the essentials, as well as fresh-cooked healthy meals from our kitchen. Right now we don't have any vouchers in stock, but that's what this fund will help us do. Give people choice and ownership over what they eat at times of crisis like these.
We don't know what the end of the story is. We hope mum gets her child back. That's the bigger story. But our part in the story right now is to make sure there's food in that house and that mum and child can enjoy another day together.
Thank you for your support.
