Winthorpe Community Partnership

RCN 1172258, Skegness

Winthorpe Community Partnership is a resident led collaboration between residents and service providers from NHS, Council, Police, Housing Association an others with the aims of providing the community with more choice, more opportunities and increase local knowledge and skills to make our community a happier healthy inclusive place to live.Along side all of this we run clubs and activities.

Winthorpe Community Partnership

Winthorpe Community Partnership was successful in developing a strong robust Partnership that can support and encourage residents to self organise, encourage service providers and other partners to work together and support each other to develop a greater resilience and a self-help attitude. This has resulted in improving dialogue between residents and public agencies, resulting in better service delivery / commissioning and local decision making.

We support people to improve their lifestyles through a range of preventative initiatives e.g. social activities and access to exercise, healthier eating and learning opportunities.

Winthorpe Community Partnership is a registered Charity incorporated organisation. We work out of the old Methodist church on roman bank in Winthorpe.

We started out as a Tenants association many years ago. Mainly offering a youth club and some events. In 2016 we took the plunge and became a partnership to allow us to do more for our community.    In 2017 we became a registered charity and employed a community Coordinator ourselves.

In 2014 we secured nearly £18.000 from the people’s health lottery. We used £12.000 to build a mini skate ramp in Winthorpe because the young people had been trying to get one built for 3 years. They were told that they would never get one. We worked hard to make it happen. We had a fantastic launch day supported by lots of service providers too. It helped us to prove to residents that we wasn’t all talk and that we were listening to them.

Building great connections with service providers has proved vital in our success so far.

The pandemic has stopped all but a few of our activities. Over the next four years we would like to re-establish the activities that mean most to people and develop others that residents say would be beneficial, with a strong focus on supporting people to overcome their mental health issues and those that suffer loneliness & isolation.   Our plans also include to develop a wellbeing hub for Winthorpe that is a dedicated place to meet people, provide space for partners to provide health services, and promote healthy activity.

Comments from some of our service users.

•Examples;

·One elderly lady told the coordinator that she has no family and if it was not for the weekly lunch club she would not see anyone.

•

·A further two older people were referred to the Partnership activities by the Neighbourhood team.

•

·An elderly lady was stuck at home, depressed after losing her husband and read the leaflet put through her door, now she attends activities 3 times per week. Has also made friends outside the groups.

•

·Lady in her 40’s lost her husband last year, has self-harmed because of mental health problems.  After chatting with the community coordinator she now attends the centre, has stopped self-harming and is volunteering twice per week.

'Its my second home'

We would love to raise enough money to purchase the land and buildings so that we can move forward with our dream of building a purpose built community hub.

A place that could house offices for NHS staff to use for drop in clinics, hot desks that can be hired out by local service providers..
