The 'Windrush Scandal' has impacted on the Windrush Generation and their descendants. Many people have lost their jobs, housing, health care and important opportunities or have been put in detention and deported or refused re-entry into the country after attending a family funeral, wedding or holiday because they did not have the documents to prove their status.

The 'Windrush Defenders' was formed in April 2018, after the Government announced the Windrush Scheme. We voluntarily assist those affected by the scandal with rectifying their status and claiming compensation. Since then we have worked tirelessly assisting many people with obtaining the correct documentations and British Citizenship.

We have done all that we can without any grant funding or support from the government and we now need your help in order to continue assisting those with difficult Windrush Scheme applications, those who may qualify for compensation and those who are living in limbo.
Many of the people affected are vulnerable with socio-economic challenges and are not able to complete their own claims or navigate the Home Office's complex system. Most cannot afford to pay for legal help and have expressed that other services that they have tried accessing are not culturally appropriate and are not empathic to their issues. This is why the voluntary service Windrush Defenders provides is so important to those who are affected. The Windrush Defenders are from the same communities and have lived experiences of the issues that they are assisting with.

The Windrush Generation experiences have been traumatic and this has been exacerbated by Covid-19 which as we know has disproportionately affected the BAME community. We particularly want to reach the older members of the community as many of them are experiencing serious health issues, many currently caring for or mourning loved ones and are particularly disadvantaged, overlooked and are afraid or ashamed to seek help.
Your donation will help with the cost of room hire to provide free "Windrush Surgeries" in the local communities to offer one to one support and advocacy, sessional workers to make home visits to those who are housebound, travel costs and other resources to assist those who are affected. We know many are living in limbo and are suffering in silence. Your support will also help us to increase the services we can provide.
Thank you for your support.
