Hello, Im Jakob a recent Graduate from WSA and what I want to do in Winchester is to get people drawing. We have two arts universities but we have a massive gap in terms of what we have to offer in the city. So, what me and my small team are trying to do is to create events that offer a life drawing service that is run effectively, but with an emphasis on community. We offer tea and biscuits, we have a big chat about... ART and all things surrounding our lives. It's amazing the power of art and community, I think that's what really makes art special for me. The social benefits for people and overall better mental wellbeing have proved to me that this is a worthwhile and important experience.
My vision is to provide Hampshire (and beyond) with a more unique and youthful life drawing community, with practicing artists and young professionals coming together to share ideas, not just with other young creatives, but older professionals that might have a thing or two to pass on.
We have been zooming (online life drawing) since the start of this year, after we stopped hosting at the venues we used to run at (Theatre Royal - Rawberry - The Nutshell - Cabinet Rooms) in no particular order. We have really enjoyed running in person sessions and I know how much it means to so many - to those that haven't been able to log on during the pandemic.
Having the ability to start again and have the financial side covered will mean we can invest in materials for our members, pay for models to sit for longer periods of time, run more sessions and keep up the good fight... as we all know Winchester has a big heart and a lot to give, I feel blessed to live here so it's nice to be able to give as much back to the community as possible.
