To celebrate the humble scone & to add to our fund raising event, we are offering an afternoon tea experience in the hotel where this English tradition started in 1865. Take a look online, see all the mouthwatering sandwiches, cakes and scones on offer plus a choice of teas. All served in the Palm Court restaurant accompanied by soft piano music.
The Cause
In August, our congregation members are making 100 scones to pack into take-away Devon cream teas to sell at South Molton Pannier Market, North Devon, to raise money for some urgent repairs to our beautiful church.
Warkleigh has always been a rural parish of hamlets & farmsteads. The population is mainly involved in agriculture. The history of the church dates back to the 1300's, although the parish is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It's comparatively small church and we have been fortunate in that, we have not had to ask for donations or funds for a number of years, however, we now have serious and urgent repairs required to the Lady Chapel wall & the lime plaster on the inside of the South wall.
