Aim: It's a start-up, honey and beekeeping business based in Wiltshire, founded in 2025. To produce high-quality, ethically harvested honey.
I’m a lifelong nature enthusiast with a background in engineering and sustainable technology. After volunteering with local conservation groups, I discovered beekeeping as a powerful way to combine my passion for ecology with my skills in project management and process optimisation. In early 2024, I founded Holman & Son Ltd with my son, Harrison Holman.
Currently, Holman & Son Ltd has several trading companies, from Shutters and Blinds companies to Technology Sales Representatives for global technology start-ups to established OEMs in this sector.
We would like to start a local honey bee farming business that would eventually create further employment in the Wiltshire area. We intend to bring high-quality, ethically harvested honey and beeswax products to Wiltshire’s communities.
So far we have invested £1500 in purchasing 10 beehives and equipment. We have permission from several farmers to use their land. However,
our initial £1,500 investment—covering 10 hives, protective gear, a basic smoker and hive tools—only scratches the surface of what’s needed to build a thriving apiary. To move from a pilot phase into a scalable local enterprise, we need external funding to:
Increase Hive Numbers & Colonies: Purchase an additional 20–30 hives and nuc colonies, ensuring a healthy apiary capable of producing 500–700 kg of honey annually.
Upgrade Extraction & Bottling Equipment: Invest in a larger-capacity honey extractor, stainless-steel settling tanks, and professional-grade bottling stations to streamline processing and maintain food-safe standards.
Packaging & Branding: Develop bespoke glass jars, eco-friendly labels, and branded packaging that reflect our commitment to sustainability and local provenance.
Marketing & Market Access: Build a simple yet robust e-commerce site, design point-of-sale materials for farmers’ markets, and fund targeted outreach to independent shops and farm-to-table restaurants.
