Tipton Town libraries and St John's Church Dudley are working together on a project to celebrate the life of William Perry the Tipton Slasher former bare knuckle boxer and Champion of England
Next year is the 100th anniversary of public subscriptions being used for a memorial in St John's Church and our project hopes to raise funds to carry out necessary repairs to the grave and install a brand new information board in the churchyard and to develop a heritage trail around the area with leaflets, beermats and bookmarks being used to promote the trail to local community, schools and the many visitors to the area
We hope to record a programme for local radio based on his life and times and hold a community event at the church next year
We aim to include other community groups and also hold a Black Country history fayre inviting similar groups to join together
