In UK 4,000 children every year are diagnosed with Cancer. During the treatment many will loose there hair and ofther their heads are too sensitive to wear an ordinary wig. We make fun playful wigs using a soft yarn and so far we have been able to make and donate 600 wigs. We have involved many people so far who have all helped us make the wigs at one of our community Wigathon events. These events are a wonderful example of communities coming together for each other. The feedback we get from these events is amazing and those involved often tel us that they feel more confident, have a greater feeling of self worth and feel that they now have a sense of purpose.
During these uncertain times it is more important than ever to come together as a community. Our aim is to make and donate 400 wigs over the next 24 weeks by hosting online Wigathons and interact virtually with people across the country. We will create packs to send out to people containing all the materials needed so we can all get together online 2-3 times per week for Wigzee workshops and tutorials. This will enable us to continue making our wonderful wigs as well as use this time to bring people together, something we feel is very important in these uncertain times. Online Wigathons will help people maintain their mental health, reduce the feeling of social isolation and support such a fantastic cause whilst we are at it. We will continue to run the sessions every week during this unprecedented time - and look forward to putting those smiles on childrens faces.
