WIGAN DEANERY TRUST

RCN 1184650, Wigan

Wigan Deanery Trust (WDT) was established in April 2019 with a passionate commitment to transforming lives in the Borough of Wigan. Our vision, encapsulated in the powerful phrase 'Believing in Wigan,' drives us to collaboratively enhance the well-being of Wigan's people through social action. We champion the resilience and potential within each individual, extending a helping hand to overcome challenges irrespective of age or background. In local 'speak', we aim to give people a 'lift' – lifting people out of food poverty, financial hardship and debt, unhelpful habits, addictions and grief, hence the aptly named 'Lifted', our social justice programme. At the core of our mission is a genuine concern for the youth of Wigan. We want to see them thrive not just survive and so have a dedicated Next Generation Team.

WIGAN DEANERY TRUST

Over the last 5 years, Wigan Deanery Trust is working with and supporting local partners to see lives of people in Wigan transformed.

We are a Charitable Trust and a Company limited by Guarantee, led and managed by a board of Trustees. In addition to supporting the social action work of our church partners, the Trust provides a full range of centralised administrative services providing the infrastructure and systems to implement and manage several projects:

We support Lifted, Church Wigan's Social Justice Ministries. Governance support is provided by Wigan Deanery Trust.  It includes our Food Pantries, Pop-Up Pantries, Warm/Welcome Spaces, CAP Debt Centre and Celebrate Recovery.

At the core of our mission is a genuine concern for the youth of Wigan. Through our dedicated Next Generation team, we've been actively engaged in high schools, churches and local communities, working to empower young minds and cultivate positive change. We offer leadership training , with graduates making impactful contributions abroad and fostering community and reducing social isolation locally. Wigan Deanery Trust has also provided a trained counsellor in one local high school which is now expanding into another counsellor at a second high school, after a successful pilot. This has been crucial and life changing support for the youth of Wigan amidst the mental health crisis.
