Aim: Cycling 107km to change how young people see careers in social care. Not as a last resort - a future filled with purpose connection.

“Social care isn’t a real career…”

That’s what I heard growing up in Lincolnshire — where ambition wasn’t always encouraged and opportunities were limited. Careers advice was narrow, and care was seen as a last resort, not a real future.

Like many others, I chose BTEC Health and Social Care not out of passion, but because there wasn’t much else.

Then everything changed — because of a placement mix-up.

Instead of a being placed in a school during my third year of Uni, I was sent to a day centre for adults with learning disabilities. I tried to get out of it, expecting silence and sadness. But what I found was joy. Music. Laughter. The smell of baking. People dancing, painting, and thriving.

That 12-week experience changed everything. I saw that social care isn’t “just a job” — it’s creativity, connection, and community.

Now, over a decade later, I work across education, health, and social care. And I still meet young people who are told that care has no future, no purpose, no respect.

That’s why I’m cycling 107km from Brighton to London — to prove them wrong, and to support Who Cares Wins, a campaign I helped lead to connect care providers with schools and show young people that social care is a future worth choosing.

👉 In the next 10 years, the UK will need 750,000 more people working in social care — yet only 8% of young people are considering it.

We need to change the story.

Your donation will help more students learn about Who Cares Wins — and help shift perceptions of a sector full of opportunity, progression, and purpose.

💚 Every pound helps me pedal toward a future where care is seen, chosen, and celebrated.
