I am a disabled woman who loves to travel using my electric wheelchair. In 2022 I visited Morocco and was deeply moved by the disabled people I met there. There is very little support for disabled people, and it is very difficult to get any work.
Alnour is a wonderful organisation which helps disabled women to develop a skill and make creative textiles to sell. The organisation is designed to be accessible, with a minibus picking the women up and taking them to work each day. Most of the women have manual wheelchairs, which are heavy and uncomfortable. The streets in Morocco are difficult to navigate with a manual wheelchair as you are utterly reliant on your own arm strength to over come obstacles.
This means that for many of these women, they are unable to go out by themselves or get around the city.
My aim is to raise £5,000 to buy 8 lightweight folding wheelchairs for the women of Alnour. By giving these women electric wheelchairs we can drastically change their quality of life, contributing to their independence.
As a disabled women, my electric wheelchair completely changed my life for the better. I was able to go places, see people, do my own shopping, travel, and feel free for the first time since becoming sick.
Just a small donation will help me share this gift of freedom with the women of Alnour.
