Whitby Area Development Trust

RCN 518451, Whitby

The promotion, for the benefit of the public, of urban or rural regeneration in areas of social and economic deprivation, in particular Whitby and the surrounding rural district.

Whitby Area Development Trust

The Trust undertakes and enables a wide range of community  activities to support people in Whitby and district.

Among its assets is the Coliseum Centre, a former cinema and bingo hall, which now provides a community cafe, theatre, internet resources, high quality office and meeting rooms for hire by not for profit organisations, hosts local community & action groups and has self contained residential accommodation for up to 12 adults with learning disabilities.

The Trust also runs the Network Shop in Station Square which offers affordable second hand household items and furniture. As the only charity shop in Whitby offering furniture, it helps support local households with limited means and promotes environmental sustainability.

The Trust has recently begun to restore a neglected 18th C walled garden on the outskirts of Whitby as a long term project. Working in partnership with local groups, the garden will provide well being through nature with horticulture, creative and sensory activities. The aim is to create a safe and supported environment to connect with nature, contribute to a sense of purpose and help combat loneliness and isolation.
