On the 28th March 2021 we'd raised £3,330 with 50 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
With the extra funding we would look to extend changing facilities within the Glebe as well as improve access to the Cricket Club.
Who We Are?
Whickham Cricket Club was founded in 1860 and has been at the heart of the community ever since. We are located on Rose Avenue just off Whickham Front Street.
We have established ourselves within the community as a club who take great pride in coaching junior players, with the ambition that one day they will represent a senior team. In the season 2019-2020 we are very proud to say that we fielded 8 different junior teams ranging from under 9s all the way up to u18s, giving the boys and girls of Whickham a chance to play cricket. As well as this we have three senior teams who play their cricket in the Northumberland & Tyneside Cricket League and the Hetton Lyons Sunday Cricket League respectively.
Alongside our current club coaching we are closely affiliated with Durham Cricket, and have loved being a part of one of the latest initiatives 'All Stars'. This has seen us as a club deliver roadshows at the local primary schools with the aim of more children getting involved in cricket. We were very fortunate to have been joined on a Friday night by over 120 children wanting to get involved. As a result we achieved an All Stars award from the ECB which we were very proud of.
Why are we doing a Crowdfunder?
The pandemic has affected us all in any number of ways and, as a club we are very ambitious about where we want to be, continuously wanting to improve the facilities around the ground. We feel that by investing in the facilities this will improve the coaching and access to higher quality of coaching for children at the club.
Due to COVID, we were not able to bring in any funding to facilitate those projects, we lost out on sponsorships, memberships and general takings around the club.
What the Crowdfunder will facilitate:
We hope the Crowdfunder will allow us to continue the plans we had to constantly improve the club. The proposed projects the Crowdfunder will facilitate:
- Electricity point to the scoreboard, this will allow the electronic scoreboard to run effectively during all senior and junior games. This electricity point will also support the use of coaching resources such as bowling machines and ball feeders.
- Due to the increasing number of juniors attending our sessions (which is fantastic) we need to ensure we are using high quality coaching equipment, as well as somewhere to store this away from the weather and free use. We are proposing to make/buy a fit for purpose storage equipment box which would stay in the nets full time. We hope this will maintain a high level of coaching throughout the summer.
- Alongside the high numbers of juniors and the south facing patio there is an area beside the patio which we feel could be used to facilitate hot food, snacks and drinks, a bottle bar to reduce the flow inside the Glebe bar, and a tuck shop. We propose putting a roof and flooring the area which is not currently being used and making it functional.
As a club we are very ambitious in what we want to achieve, we see ourselves within the heart of the community and want to continue supporting juniors and seniors with recreational cricket to the best of our ability.
