To promote the age old art of woodturning within a friendly club atmosphere with expert tuition in a safe environment in our Academy.

Wherry Woodturners

Wherry Woodturners has been formed by five enthusiastic woodturners who identified the need to develop a learning academy to enhance the skills of woodturning in our local Community. Our numbers have grown rapidly and the purpose of this approach is to encourage woodturners of all ages and abilities to engage. The difference this project will make will encourage better practice techniques of traditional skills and growing hobby, whilst learning in a low risk environment. We currently have further interest across the community from young people to people in their eighties many of whom have had no or minimal training. The benefits will be extended to club members, potential members and the wider community to learn about this fascinating past time. We currently partner The Wherry Maud Trust to widen community engagement in both organisations. This is a jointly beneficial relationship, with members of the trust speaking at an event(s) and providing old timber from the Maud's restoration for the Academy to use for training and producing parts for the Maud Trust. With the help of funding support to purchase the equipment required for our Academy, it will have a lasting impact in the community for many years to come.

Heres how we will use your donations!

Three new Lathes with stands, inclusive of one adjustable height stand making participation accessible to all   £2,800

Four sets of turning tools  £900

PPE Equipment  £500.

Additional cost of engaging Instructors  £1500

Additional Venue Hire for future Academy events  £295

Details of our Academy progress will be published on our website - wherrywoodturners.org, Facebook, local media, social media and community notice boards. As a new project funding will support our ability to grow and also meet our charitable objectives which are:

1) Promote the art of woodturning.
