WEST END IMPACT

RCN 1153736, Morecambe

We help over 1800 people suffering in poverty, with housing issues, unemployment, poor mental and physical health, benefit and budgeting issues and more, to get through their initial crisis and engage with our services & other services to rebuild their lives. From our food bank to our mental health support groups, from our creative projects, to our garden project, from advice & guidance to professional counselling, all our projects are to help people improve their wellbeing and improve their potential in life. We want to be a strong community in our community who help people look at new ways to improve their prospects and break down barriers that hold them back from reaching their potential. We are known as the go to place in a very deprived area of Morecambe if you need help. We know we can't solve everyone's problems but we try to enable each individual to look at ways to improve their lives because there is HOPE! Often many of the people we help fall through the nets of the statutory services as their lives have become chaotic and it's hard to engage when your mental health is really suffering, so we provide a step by step manageable plan to help people move in the right direction to engage in the help they need. We run a drop in service as people who are struggling often find it hard to keep to appointments and are often anxious about dealing with official bodies. We often act as a go between for people who find it hard to access and engage in statutory services. We also help people who struggle with technology such as people over 55 who find it hard to access services due everything now being online or on a phone app.

WEST END IMPACT

WEST END IMPACT has been working in a very deprived area of the seaside town of Morecambe and beyond for the last 22 years. We help people who are struggling in crisis such as poverty, long term unemployment, poor mental and physical health, homeless or vulnerably housed, struggling in addiction and more recently and increasingly people who are struggling in retirement.

We run a small FOOD BANK and provide 2 free meals each week which is a good point of contact to meet people and talk to them about other issues they may be facing. We look at the reasons why they might need to come to a food bank and clothes bank. At our drop in sessions we have a 'Parish Nurse' who gives health advice and helps people to navigate the NHS and have developed a good relationship with the doctors surgery across the road from us. We help people to get appointments and look at other health issues they may be facing. At our 2 drop in sessions we also have Advice & Guidance workers who will help make phone calls, fill in forms, help people digitally with IT, writing emails,  and help with benefits, housing and budgeting advice. We also have other agencies coming into our drop in sessions such as Calico who work for the council doing outreach for 'Rough Sleepers' We have liver scan sessions through the NHS and free eye tests and glasses through the NHS. Probation also come to see clients at our centre. We also have support groups such AA, NA and CA

We have a 'WELLBEING WEDNESDAYS' where we run a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy based course for up to 12 people which helps them overcome and manage, anxiety, depressions and low mood. We have a Person Centred Counsellor who gives one to one appointments. We also run a therapeutic Art Group at our Wellbeing Wednesdays

We have 2 shops THE RE STORE & RESTORATION where we help people to get creative. This is a great way to help people, especially the unemployed, learn new creative skills, help their wellbeing and also think of new ways to employment or education. We teach art, crafts and furniture restoration including FRENCH POLISHING. We find people who are being creative have new perspectives and discover new things about themselves that leads to positive life change. We help people back into employment and have helped several people set up their own small businesses.

We have a garden project 'GROWING VEG & PEOPLE' where we teach people to grown things and help them understand health issues and how to nurture and grow themselves.

We have a small YOUTH CLUB for High School aged teenagers, creating a safe space for teenagers to meet and have fun on a Friday night.

Everything we do at West End Impact comes under the titles 'REACTING TO CRISIS' and 'REBUILDING LIVES' We have many stories of people who have come to us in crisis and left into a much better life.
