We're still collecting donations
On the 31st July 2020 we'd raised £3,125 with 58 supporters in 42 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
We are aiming to raise £3,000 to facilitate a safe return to swimming for our 120+ members following the enforced Covid-19 break.

On the 31st July 2020 we'd raised £3,125 with 58 supporters in 42 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Any money raised will help to pay for our phased return to swimming once the pools are open again. It will support children, young people and adults in the local area who use swimming as a main or supplementary sport to keep them physically and mentally fit.
Who are Wells Swimming Club?
Wells is a friendly and inclusive, competitive swimming club based in the City of Wells, the smallest city of England! Our members are all local to the Wells area and swim for enjoyment and fitness as well in local open meets and leagues. Just before the Covid-19 lockdown, our Cotswold League team won the league for the first time ever!
Why are we raising funds?
Since March Wells swimmers have been unable to swim due to Covid-19. We have over 120 members aged 7-77 (honestly!) and whilst they have been keeping fit out of the pool, they are definitely looking forward to getting wet again!
During lockdown we have relied on donations to the club rather than charging full fees to our members. Our popular City of Wells open meet was cancelled in early April which is normally a source of significant revenue (£10k) and allows us to keep our fees lower than most clubs for our members, most of whom come from Wells and the surrounding villages. It also allows us to invest in our club during the year, training coaches, team managers, poolside helpers and judges. Unfortunately our coaches could not take any government funding so as a club we have helped them during this very tough time.
Based on the current guidelines and information for a phased return to swimming in the next couple of months we need to raise some money to cover additional pool time (to accommodate social distancing measures) and equipment necessary to ensure our swimmers feel safe and confident to return to swimming.
What will any funds be used for?
Any money raised will be used to keep Wells Swimming Club alive and well - and to ensure that swimming sessions over the next few months remain viable. We would also like to support our members, particularly those going through difficult times.
Double your money!
Sport England and Crowdfunder is making it 100% free for community and charity crowdfunding projects during the coronavirus crisis. So whatever we can raise they match 50% of it!
Why should I help?
These are unprecedented times but together, we are stronger, and the response is coming from communities across the country.
Our club is a highly valued part of the Wells community and has been in existence for well over 50 years. We'd like to grow the club and come back stronger than ever before.
What will I get?
Not only will we keep you updated with our fundraising but you'll get tax relief on any money donated and at the end of the project we will have a prize draw for all supporters who have donated £10 or more!
