Our Club
Wellesbourne CC has been privileged to be able to provide a social summer sport for our local community, and the club has a thriving boys' and men's section. Over the last 4 years the club has seen a steady increase in girls progressing through All Stars cricket into Dynamos. There is now a large group of girls that have formed the 1st all girls softball cricket team. This summer has so far seen them play in numerous tournaments making good progress with very limited resources.
These girls all want to progress into hardball cricket to form an all girls hardball cricket team next season.
This is an area of great importance for the club to ensure there are equal opportunities for girls moving through into hardball cricket. We want to enable and empower them all to play sport with their friends, play competitive team sport and change the perception of girls playing a male dominated sport.
We want to provide a pathway for girls to play cricket from All Stars through to youth level, with this team being the first phase. Our aim for this season is to provide the proper infrastructure for the softball team to enhance their skills and become ready over the summer and winter to play hardball cricket, with the long term aim to facilitate a pathway for them to progress all the way through to playing senior women’s cricket.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Currently, within our youth section, Primary School Boys and Girls can play in mixed teams. This year we would like to establish a pathway for girls to play hardball in an all girls team. In order to achieve this, we have formed the first all girls softball team competing in festivals across the county playing mainly against all boys’ teams.
Wellesbourne CC wants to ensure that we offer opportunities for everyone in the community. A vibrant girls' programme will enable us to build a strong foundation for the development of female cricketers, and to build a truly diverse club for the future.
Similar to a number of local sports clubs, we are reliant on people volunteering their services and time to run the club. We want to grow our female participation in 2024 onwards and provide cricket to more girls and hopefully inspire more women than ever before. To do this we need to buy much needed cricket equipment for the Girls' team, which is specific to their gender rather than having to be disadvantaged using ill-fitting equipment. We are determined to make cricket, and the opportunities it offers, affordable and accessible to all.
How can you play a part
Help us reach our target and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
Our Project
Our softball season has now finished and we are aiming to have kit and equipment to start hardball training over the winter and through into the new year, with the intention to launch our Girls’ hardball team next season. We really need your support to ensure we have the equipment to support our young female players.
Your support will enable us to:
Buy team training equipment and a basic selection of shared cricket kit (bats, pads, gloves and helmets) to allow girls to try hardball cricket without the individual cost incurred if they do not continue into hardball.
Ensure that all age groups of players have the appropriate training equipment so that the girls can experience cricket without parents having to worry about initial expense.
Support coaches to develop and mentor our young players.
Community Impact
We believe that cricket provides a unique opportunity for girls from across the community to enjoy a sport, which promotes a strong team ethos and empowers our young players to support each other as they take on new challenges. The positive attitude and team values of Aspire, Respect and Togetherness that we have seen in our young girls is truly inspiring.
Through creating this girls player pathway we hope to continue to develop the values that come through organised sport, whilst building friendships that will last for many years.
Thank you for considering supporting the Wellesbourne Cricket Club Girls' Pathway - we'd love you to be part of our club growth in 2024 - 2025.
Should anyone be interested in the opportunity to sponsor the team please contact us. We would really appreciate the offer and would proudly wear your company name on our 2025 Team Kit.
