Aim: It's our once-a-year chance to show our livestock, tractors, crafts and arts to the whole county, and camp out in all weathers!
Every year, we try to take as many members as possible to the Kent County Show, to compete with the other Young Farmers Clubs of Kent. This year, it's really special as Kent Federation of YFCs is 80 years old! The YFC livestock and craft show is bigger than ever.
We camp for three nights on the showground. We are bringing cattle and sheep to show, in three full days of showing. The first day the livestock is judged. The second day, the members are judged on their knowledge and handling skills. The third day, if we're not totally exhausted, we see how clean we can be as we are judged on turnout. In the craft section, you can see our amazing displays, home crafts and art - we usually do pretty well here!
The members not only learn about their crafts and their livestock, but also teamwork, communication, leadership, responsibility and co-operation! If it rains, resilience, determination and resourcefulness are all needed! We are sportsmanlike with our fellow YFC member, pulling together to show off what YFCs can do all across the county!
Our club trip usually costs £700-£1000, and any contribution is gratefully received. Our club party this year is 2/3rds children and students in full time education, and all our accompanying leaders are volunteering a great deal of their time (and patience)! Thanks so much!
