We are a community-based project in Southampton, UK, contributing to our local community by feeding the homeless and operating a food bank within our local community. Besides that, we provide free counselling, including straight forward legal advice if there is an identified need.
We are 100% funded by individual donations from the local community. All our supporters and volunteers are professionals living within the local area and are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others that are in need in the community. The service we offer is accessible to any individual from the local community, irrespective of race; gender; age and background. This also includes students at the halls of residence, especially international students who are studying away from home, some of which have no relations in the UK.
Our organisation and our donors and volunteers see firsthand the rise in homelessness and the devastating impact it has on the lives of those affected within our local community. We have also seen a rise in the numbers of low-income families struggling with the increase in cost of living and reaching out to us for help. We constantly listen to our service users, such as homeless shelters; low-income families and individuals within our local community to understand how we can better serve them, hence the need to expand our services.
We have a good relationship with homeless shelters that reach out to us from time to time for help when they have a need. Our expanded services will significantly help to augment the efforts of other charities (i.e.; YMCA) rendering similar service by providing supplies and meals 2 days a week while other charities provide meals for other days of the week. We currently donate a good amount of new-born clothes and blankets to the neo-natal unit at Princess Anne hospital, Southampton; a service very much cherished by the staff at that unit.
Currently, we are experiencing a very high demand to deliver cooked meals more frequently to the homeless shelter at Patrick House, Southampton and on the High Street in Southampton. Our service will make a significant difference as it guarantees at least 2 cooked nutritional meals a week for homeless individuals living in shelters and those on the street. We will use all funds raised for the core costs of running our expanded service and to continue our existing services. Our service will also help to ease the cost-of-living burden on low-income families by increasing the stock of essential food supplies and toiletries we provide through our food bank.
