Palestine here we come! Share the excitement!
Thank you so much for your support so far. Now could you share this appeal with a couple of your friends?
Here's an update: We've booked tickets, planned rehearsals and have organised an itinerary with our fantastic host Kristel Elayyan from Beit Sahur. There'll be gigs at the famous club Kabareet in Haifa Israel, frequented mainly by Palestinians with Israeli ID, in the renowned Edward Said Conservatoire in Bethlehem at Nablus International Festival and informally at the Jisser Cafe in Beit Sahur.
There'll be a lovely valley walk (but for the separation barrier and illegal Israeli hilltop settlements) from the UNESCO world heritage village of Battir to Beit Jala as the olive leaves begin to appear and almond blossom is out, acrtoss limestone terraces; we're here to walk and understand the local's realtionship to the land.
Also, Simon Leach Chai's darbukka player will lead a workshop on music therapy for teachers of children with autism, Michael Loader will explore childrens' views of the land through a story telling workshop at a local school, Marianna Moralis will run a session on drama and Knud and I will run a jazz improvisation workshop. Katie Stevens will share clarinet techniques with local players.
We'll be self-catering in a small apartment and meeting up for regular jam sessions too.
We're short of funds for food, for internal travel, for composition and coordination time, and to subsidise the gigs booked after we and our fellow Palestinian musicians have created a new show. We also have to feed and accommodate Zaid Hilal whilst in the UK These gigs will be
June 8th Saint Stephen's Church Bristol
June 9th Taunton CICCIC
June 15th Carlton Hill Quaker Meeting in Leeds
June 16th Friar Gate Quaker Meeting in York
June 17th Rising Sun Arts Centre in Reading.
Lastly here is music of the wonderful singer we'll be working with on tour in UK, Zaid Hilal.
I very appreciate all the help you've given .
