Warwickshire Young Carers

RCN 1098357, Coventry

Warwickshire Young Carers is an independent registered charity (charity no. 1098357), established in 2003. The organisation provides support for children and young people from 6 to 25 years old who care for a relative such as siblings, parents, or grandparents who have an illness, disability, mental health condition or substance dependence. We work across Warwickshire supporting young carers, providing them with opportunities to relax, take a break, and achieve their aspirations. This is achieved through group activities, one to one support, provision of information, advice and guidance with the aims of reducing inappropriate caring responsibilities and promoting positive wellbeing.

Warwickshire Young Carers provide an holistic approach, ensuring that young carers are afforded a break from their caring responsibilities, and supported to achieve their aspirations, by:

 - Assessing young carers upon referral to us to provide targeted support.

 - Encouraging and enabling the voice of young carers to be heard.

 - Providing opportunities for young carers to meet each other, make new friends, learn new skills and have fun.

- Organising regular group activities, workshops, days out and short breaks.

- Providing information advice and guidance to young carers and their families.

- Supporting young carers and young adult carers to navigate key transitions.

- Referring and signposting young carers to access help from other agencies and service providers.

- Training professionals to support young carers, increasing awareness and  identification.

Quote from a young carer regarding one of our letter box activities sent during the first national lockdown:

‘Thank you for the pebble art. When it arrived my sister was in the middle of a massive meltdown because she wanted all the devices in the house for herself. It gave me something fun to do while she calmed down.’

Quote from a young carer about attending groups:

‘I love coming to group, seeing my friends and taking time out for myself and I feel more independent’

Quote from a parent regarding the support received from us:

‘Young Carers have given my boys an opportunity to be themselves and not worry about me for a while. I am so grateful for everything that the staff, in particular (Staff Name), have done for them both.’
